Our debut in the world of real estate development in Rio could not be more special: a 90 m² decorated apartment in the ASTRA project, located within the Ilha Pura Condominium complex in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. This space, which hosted around 17,000 athletes during the 2016 Olympics, blends community living with an urban landscape. The design reflects the essence of the Frans Krajcberg Park, signed by the Burle Marx office, and its connection to Ilha Pura — the first neighborhood in Latin America to receive the LEED ND sustainability certification.
The overall concept of the project was to create two distinct worlds within the same apartment, without one space overpowering the other. While the fully independent 18 m² studio bedroom features a more vibrant and urban identity, the rest of the apartment embraces a softer, more welcoming tone. The heart of the design is the green bookcase, which has become the focal point of the apartment. It visually connects the integrated living, dining, and kitchen areas, serving as the element with the greatest chromatic impact.
The kitchen, visible as soon as you enter, is compact and integrated with the laundry area. It was designed to offer practicality and functionality. Equipped with a refrigerator, dishwasher, cooktop, microwave, and a washer-dryer combo, it efficiently meets all everyday needs. To give the space a more contemporary feel, we opted for a mix of cabinetry, combining a darker wood tone with a beige hue similar to Coral Paints’ “Bege Amuleto,” which was also applied to the living room wall.
With the solidity of the BTG seal and the collective energy of Rio 2016, the development offers an experience on multiple scales — from living to sharing — fostering a genuine sense of belonging to the city. This vibrant identity is also reflected in the decorated apartment designed by TODOS, which captures the essence of the Carioca lifestyle.

For the dining room, we designed a bench that runs along the entire wall, providing extra seating and incorporating a drawer unit for storage. To highlight the textural richness of the space and enhance the apartment’s sensory experience, we chose warm tones for this area. The Duo Cone Round pendant in fabric, model 5146 by TomLuz, was selected as a key element to deepen the welcoming atmosphere.

The living room, integrated with the balcony, offers a natural invitation to contemplate the stunning landscape of the Carioca mountains. The interior design prioritized functionality and comfort, with strategically placed furniture that preserves the view, creating an ideal space for relaxation and connection with the outdoors.

The master bedroom follows a comfortable and sophisticated approach, prioritizing materials that evoke a sense of coziness. The standout feature is the custom-designed glass wardrobe, which allows natural light to filter through, enhancing the sense of space and flow. Behind the bed, a grooved slatted panel creates a visual connection between the terracotta-toned headboard and the light woodwork of the open wardrobe, reinforcing the room’s airy and spacious feel. The composition is balanced by the Greeny Field Landscape artwork from Urban Arts, which adds a touch of serenity to the space.
To harmonize with the other design choices, the color palette—composed of beiges, soft greens, and terracotta—enhances the overall sense of well-being. The flooring throughout the apartment is Caminho SGR Natural by Portinari, present in every room. In the ensuite bathroom, it extends halfway up the wall, sharing space with the ceramic tiles Miscelânea, Vivan Sauge, and Ligne Sauge, also by Portinari.

The standout feature of this project is the creation of a studio bedroom — an 18 m² self-contained space within the apartment. With a private bathroom, a small kitchenette, and independent access, it’s ideal for seasonal use, such as Airbnb rentals. It can also serve to offer greater privacy for a young adult seeking independence or to comfortably accommodate elderly parents. The aesthetic is youthful and urban, featuring a palette of greys, terracotta, dark wood, and greens.
